Influencia social en el cambio de los estereotipos. (Social influence on the stereotypes change) Author Jesús Ortiz, Luis Jacinto Publication Year 1996 Type Journal Article Abstract Studied the effects of majority and minority opinion on change in attitude toward the gypsy stereotype. Human Ss: 236 normal male and female Spanish adults (aged 18–25 yrs) (university students) Ss were asked to indicate their opinion about the number of gypsies that should be allowed to live in Spain. Ss were then asked to read an essay suggesting that gypsies should not be treated equally. Ss were told that the source of the essay was either a majority or a minority group and/or by a younger or an older group. Ss were asked to indicate which parts of the essay they agreed or disagreed with, and whether or not the essay influenced their opinion on the residence of gypsies in Spain. The results were evaluated according to source of the essay, influence of minority or majority opinion, and influence of same or different age groups. A multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) and other statistical tests were used.
